How do I know if I qualify for a Habitat for Humanity house?

To qualify for a Habitat house, you must:

  1. 1. Have been a resident of Gloucester or Mathews County for the past year.
  2. 2. Have a need for adequate housing (one or more of the following applies to you):
      ---your present dwelling is in poor condition
      ---you are living in over-crowded conditions (2 people or more per bedroom)
      ---you live in an unsafe neighborhood
  3. 3. Have a yearly income (before taxes) within Habitat's income guidelines and have the ability to pay a Habitat mortgage.
  4. 4. Be willing to work 300 hours to help build your Habitat house.

How can I apply for a Habitat house?

If you think you qualify for a Habitat house, you may contact Habitat for Humanity of Gloucester-Mathews, Inc. You will be placed on our waiting list and be contacted the next time we have an "open applications" period. If you still qualify, you will be sent an application to complete.

Your completed application will be reviewed by a Habitat for Humanity Family Selection Committee. Qualified families are chosen based on need, willingness to work and ability to repay the no-interest loan.
